Thailand Considering Investing In Three Deep Sea Ports To Boost Marine Tourism

Cruise terminals to serve as hybrid ports

Given the continuous growth opportunities in marine tourism through the increasing number of large cruise ships, the Marine Department has commissioned a consultant to study the feasibility and design of ports to accommodate these vessels.

The project has been allocated a budget of 156.15 million baht for the years 2020-23 under the integrated tourism revenue generation plan.

Muang Si Udon A new plant species from Thailand

Thailand is a tropical region with an abundant number of plant species. Thailand is estimated to have 11,000 flowering plant species. Thai botanists collaborated to establish the Flora of Thailand project, which effectively started researching the country’s flora in 1967. The research and data collection of plant species require extensive collaboration from many expert plant taxonomists. The findings are published in the book Flora of Thailand, which serves as a guide for recognizing various plant families and provides botanical information on the species. This resource is worldwide recognized as an essential guide to Thailand’s plant resources.

TAT Partners with KTC to Drive Sustainable Tourism and Promote Eco-Friendly Hotels

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has teamed up with Krungthai Card Public Company Limited (KTC) to promote sustainable tourism by supporting over 900 hotels and resorts nationwide that meet Green Hotel project standards. This joint campaign aims to boost tourist spending during the green season while raising awareness of the government’s Sustainable Tourism Goals (STGs) among tourism operators. The initiative also encourages participation in the CF-Hotels platform to track greenhouse gas emissions, with the ultimate goal of achieving Net Zero Tourism, in line with the growing global demand for environmentally conscious travel.

The region’s coastline spans a total length of 234,000 km and its ocean supplies around 40% of the global fish supply; at the same time, it is also the home to a third of mangroves and coral reefs in the region. Thailand itself has around 3,219 kilometers of coastline which is also responsible for tourism and the fishing industry.

The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), in collaboration with the Thai Art and Crafts Development Association (TACDA), organizes the “Art Decoded” exhibition, presenting the translation of aesthetics from the works of National Artists and international artists into tangible products as souvenirs. This exhibition opens up a new sensory dimension, expanding beyond visual perception to touchable products. The product designs are inspired by the works of 11 artists, including Prof. Emeritus Preecha Thaotong, Prof. Emeritus Peter Pilgrim, Prof. Emeritus Parinya Tantisuk, Assoc.
