India Boosts Tourism with New Visa on Arrival for South Korean Citizens

This new service allows South Korean visitors to travel to India for tourism, business, conferences, or medical purposes. They can stay for up to 60 days and have the option to enter India twice on the same visa. Travelers can use this visa-on-arrival service at six major airports across India, making their trip easier and more convenient.

Additionally, the Indian government has expanded its e-visa service, now offering Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to citizens of 167 countries. This e-visa allows entry through 30 international airports and six major seaports, greatly simplifying the process for international travelers visiting India.

The Ministry of Tourism regularly conducts surveys, research, and feasibility studies to develop policies and assess how well existing programs are working. The information gathered from these studies helps identify areas for improvement and ensures that tourism policies meet their goals.

To improve tourist safety and provide quick assistance, 15 State Governments and Union Territory (UT) Administrations have set up tourist police units. The Ministry has also launched a 24×7 Multi-Lingual Tourist Info-Helpline, which is toll-free at 1800111363 or short code 1363. This helpline offers guidance and information to both domestic and international tourists in 12 languages, including 10 international ones.

The Swadesh Darshan scheme, started in 2014-15, aims to develop tourism infrastructure across India. It provides financial support to States, UT Administrations, and Central Agencies. Since its start, 76 projects under different thematic circuits have been approved, with a revised total budget of ₹5287.90 crore, of which ₹4944.47 crore have already been distributed. The scheme has now evolved into Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) to promote sustainable and responsible tourism destinations with a focus on tourists.

Additionally, the Ministry launched the National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD), a Central Sector Scheme. This program focuses on the integrated development of selected pilgrimage destinations. Under the PRASHAD scheme, ₹1621.14 crore have been approved, with ₹1024.18 crore already allocated.

Travel planners from South Korea can now more easily organize trips to India thanks to the Visa on Arrival policy, making it even more convenient for international tourists to visit the country.
